As kitten season kicks into high gear, we’re seeing a surge in tiny arrivals — some just hours old — who desperately need care. Our team works around the clock to help as many as we can, but the truth is, without enough foster homes, we simply can't save them all.

That’s where you come in.

By opening your home to foster, you’re giving these fragile babies a second chance at life. No matter the kittens age, your love and care can make all the difference.

We’re always looking for compassionate fosters to join our lifesaving mission. If you've ever thought about fostering, now is the perfect time to start.

Now that it is summer, you may start seeing more free-roaming cats and unexpected litters of kittens. Without intervention, this cycle will continue—leading to overcrowded shelters and vulnerable animals on the streets.

There is a proven solution: Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
TNR is the most humane and effective way to reduce the outdoor cat population. By trapping, spaying or neutering, and returning cats to their outdoor homes, we can stop the endless cycle of reproduction and improve the lives of community cats.

Organizations like the Animal Defense League of Arizona work tirelessly to make TNR accessible. Your awareness—and your action—can make a real difference.

When we find kittens alone outside, our instinct is to rescue them immediately—but acting too quickly can do more harm than good. While some kittens do need urgent help, many are not actually orphaned. Their mother may just be out searching for food and will return.

Every minute counts—removing kittens too soon can separate them from the care only their mother can provide.

Before you move them, wait, watch, and make sure mom isn’t coming back. If she doesn’t return after several hours, it may be time to step in. Until then, resist the urge to kitten-nap—their lives may depend on it.

Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, the Smitten Kitten Nursery provides lifesaving care for the tiniest and most fragile feline lives—kittens ranging from newborns to just a few weeks old.

As one of only 12 dedicated kitten nurseries in the U.S., our work is both rare and critical. Every meow matters, and we’re always looking for compassionate supporters to help us continue this specialized care.
