Sky Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating some of the most vulnerable street dogs — those with urgent medical needs and nowhere else to turn.
Through expert veterinary care, behavioral support and a deep commitment to each animal’s healing, Sky Sanctuary helps prepare dogs for lasting, loving homes. Fueled by community support and unwavering determination, their team is committed to helping the street dogs who need them most.
One of those dogs is Gus.
Gus was found injured on the streets and battling heartworm when he came into the care of Sky Sanctuary Rescue. When he needed additional medical care, Sky Sanctuary turned to the veterinary team at Heidi’s Village.
After diagnostics and careful planning, a treatment plan was put in place, beginning with an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) procedure to address his orthopedic needs. Gus did incredibly well through surgery and is now recovering in his foster home. After about a month of healing, he’ll begin the next step: heartworm treatment.
Gus still has a journey ahead of him, but thanks to Sky Sanctuary, his foster family and the veterinary team supporting his care, he’s moving toward a healthier, more comfortable life.
Stories like Gus’s are a great example of what can happen when animal welfare organizations work together and share their resources and expertise.
