As the Arizona temperatures rise, I’ve found myself thinking about an important question:
What would happen if Heidi’s Village wasn’t here?
This past month, local shelters have been filling up as more animals are surrendered. At the same time, many of our rescue partners have faced a seasonal challenge: foster families traveling and fewer available homes for animals waiting for rescue.
For many organizations, that could mean having to say “no.” But because Heidi’s Village is here, they can continue saying “yes.” Yes to the family needing to surrender a beloved pet. Yes to the dog sitting in an overcrowded shelter kennel. Yes to the animal who needs medical care before they can be adopted.
When rescue groups don’t have an available foster home, we provide partially-funded short-term boarding. When a dog arrives needing vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, or other medical treatment, we make sure they receive the care they need. Every dog that comes through our doors is given the opportunity to become healthier, safer, and more adoptable before moving on to a rescue or forever home, thanks, in part, to your support.
In many ways, Heidi’s Village is the bridge between uncertainty and a second chance.
And the impact reaches beyond our rescue partners.
In June, we celebrated a record-breaking month, finding homes for 84 cats and kittens through our Smitten Kitten Nursery and Meow Motel, including Anna and Elsa, who we featured in last month’s email. Eighty-four animals now sleeping safely indoors. Eighty-four families whose lives are fuller because they opened their hearts. Eighty-four happy endings that began with a vulnerable kitten needing someone to care.
None of this happens by accident. It happens because of supporters and partners like you who believe every animal deserves a second chance. Because of you, Heidi’s Village is here. Because Heidi’s Village is here, more lives are saved. And because of all of us working together, the story for thousands of animals doesn’t end in crisis—it begins with hope.
Thank you for making these second chances possible.
